Appearance

He's quite the looker!

Renji is pretty tall, standing at 188 cm, which is about 6 feet 2 inches. He's also relatively thin, weighing in at 78 kg, or 178 pounds. Now that we've got the basic frame figured out, let's get specific.

Face » Renji has a very manly face (as opposed to a girly face for a bishounen). He usually has this nonchalant annoyed face on but can get angry pretty fast. He rarely smiles but laughs sometimes.

Hair » Renji has red hair, which is really straight and long, almost to his waist, as you can see in the layout. He usualy ties it up with a black string, in a ponytail and he also has sideburns.

Eyes » Renji has very small beady eyes with red pupils. They're thin and slanted upwards, giving him a very menacing look. His brows are always furrowed (much like Ichigo's) and so it looks as if he's angry and ready to fight.

Body » Renji has a very lean and muscular upper body. He has a 6-pack and strong arms, great for swordfighting. He has somewhat scrawny legs (but then again, all Kubo guys do), which I think makes him jump really high.

Tattoos » Renji has tattoos all over his body. They're on his forehead, torso, and arms. They're made of black stripes and match those of his Zanpakutou, Zabimaru. He didn't have them when he was young and they increase progressingly as he entered the Shinigami Academy, assigned to the Gotei 13, and then now, as Vice Captain. It's probably because of his progression with Zabimaru, trying to achieve Bankai. For more on this, read the Zabimaru page.

Headgear » Renji usually wears some kind of headgear. When he first appears in the series, on a mission to capture Rukia, and when he waits in front Senzaikyuu for Ichigo to arrive, he wears a pair of sunglasses. Usually, though, during normal times and in battle, he ties a white bandanna that covers most of his forehead. He didn't have that bandanna when he was young nor when he was in the Shinigami Academy, which leads me to think that he wears it to cover the tattoos on his forehead.

As Shinigami » All Shinigami wear black robes, as does Renji. His isn't too different from everyone else's, until later in the series. A basic Shinigami robe is black with a white robe underneath. The robe is basically a pair of black hakama with a black haori, tied together by a white sash. After Renji acquired Bankai, his robes change a little. The right arm of the robe is cut off at the shoulder and he wears some kind of elbow protector. The rest of his robe stays intact.

Bankai » After Renji releases his Bankai, his clothes change a little. He wears fur on his right arm and back, which is held together by a string with teeth (a snake's, I think). On the fur on his left shoulder, there is a skull (of some kind of animal). He looks pretty damn cool, if you ask me.

In Plain Clothes » Renji is usually in his Shinigami robes so we don't get to see him in plain clothes. However, when he's off duty in the Soul Society, he wears just a normal robe. There are also some color spreads on which we see Renji in present day clothes. He looks good, to say the least.
